“Feather Your Nest”
“Feather Your Nest” is the title that was given to this whimsical pieced chicken quilt. The size of this quilt is 72” x 72” and is sewn with the finest cotton fabric purchased at a favorite local quilting shop.
This one of a kind pieced quilt has many different designs of material ranging from polka-dots, strips, floral and plaids and includes 3 different 12x12 square designs- a chicken coop and 2 different chicken designs.
The chicken coop squares has a red chicken coop with a chicken wire fence on each side and a light yellow background. The coop is located in the middle of a 1.5 inch brown bordered square. There are 9 chicken coop squares in the quilt. All the fabric used in the chicken coop squares are the same. This square has 20 pieces of fabric sewn together.
One of the chicken square designs shows only a chicken’s face created by sewing 25 pieces of fabric together. The common colors in these squares are red, orange, golden yellow and tan chicken wire. Each square is then embellished with different colors of rich dark greens, blues, browns, and reds. Brown buttons were sewn on to create the eyes. There are 8 chicken face squares in the quilt.
The other chicken square design illustrates an entire chicken which was created by sewing 15 pieces of fabric together. There are 8 complete chicken squares in the quilt and are sewn with the same fabrics and buttons as used in the other chicken squares.
The quilt is finished off with 2 borders. The inner border is 1.5 inch of a tan chicken wire fabric; whereas, the outer border and binder is 6 inches of a rich dark brown fabric. The back of the quilt is a brownish tan. Also, the quilt has been professionally quilted using the finest cotton batting.
“Feather Your Nest” quilt was sewn and donated by Emilia Beach. Emilia Beach is working on her Master Poultry Level.
Quilt will be auctioned off at the W.I.P.S. this fall.
